Frequently Asked Questions about Club Doggie Mobile Grooming Salon are answered here below by Lauren.
It's like a little grooming shop on wheels with everything inside needed to groom your dog including a stainless steel tub, electric grooming table, blow dryer, clipper vaccum and all the necessary grooming tools and supplies. Your dog is the only dog in the van, there are no cages, I am the only person who will handle your dog and your dog is never left alone. I am always within arms reach and your dog has my full attention. It is very safe and sanitary and is much less stressful for your dog to be on his property and finished quickly. It is convenient for you because you don't need to drive back and fourth from a shop, there is no dog hair in your car and many of my clients are not even home when I come for the appointment.
My 2oo8 top of the line mobile grooming van is fully self contained. It runs off of a commercial generator and battery power. I do not need to plug into your power. I have a 50 gallons of fresh water so I rarely need to borrow your water. From time to time I do run low on water and will need to fill up and it is possible that the generator could stop working and I may need to plug in, but in 5 years and thousands of grooms, I have only had to plug in a handful of times. I have a hot water heater for the tub and a heat furnace and AC unit to keep the temperature comfortable during your dog's grooming. The van will not make a mess in your driveway and it is not noisey. There is a humming from the generator running, but it is not disturbing.
Yes. The California School of Dog Grooming for 608 hours and almost 5 months. It is a certified school run by an AKC judge. It is one of the top dog grooming schools in the country with the most expansive curriculum and a very busy student run grooming shop. I started grooming dogs in July of 2005. We learned everything from technique to anatomy to sanitatinon and more. I completed the program in their prestigious Director's Circle with the highest score ever achieved on the comprehensive final exam (99.5).
Yes. I learned how to correctly groom all breeds. The owner and instructor of my school is an AKC judge and we learned our patterns to the correct AKC guidelines. However, I choose not to do show grooming on show dogs. I prefer to do pet grooming. I can do everything from hand scissored Poodles to hand stripping to just the basic bath on a Boxer. I enjoy it all!
Sorry, I do not groom cats.
Club Doggie does not and will not ever use cage dryers. There have been several deaths due to malfunctioning cage dryers and dogs being left in them too long as well as burned pads and tummies and aggravated dry eye to name a few reasons. All my dog clients are HAND dried and you will get your dog back "bone" dry which is what you both deserve. If your dog is scared of the dryer, then it will take a few appts to get him used to the dryer, but I am very good at teaching them it's safe. A dog must be completely dry or they will smell, and you will be left with more dead hair on your dog and more shedding. Especially double coated breeds. Cage dryers do not get the dog completely dry. Haircut dogs must be blown completely dry to have the hair stand up straight on end, for me to be able to give them a fantastic haircut!
Yes, I am fully insured. I pay a lot of money every year for the best vehicle and liability business insurance available in the pet industry. Dog grooming as an industry is not regulated for licenses. It should be, and many states are working toward this bill. That is why it is so important you choose a groomer who went to a certified, state approved school and knows what they are doing in all aspects of grooming.
My state of the art mobile grooming van has the proper equipment to help me with handling large dogs and senior dogs in a safer more successful manner. The mobile is great for scared dogs, puppies and difficult dogs because it is quiet and there are no distractions. It is much less stressful and better for the dog. I am ok with a dog that snaps out of fear of trimming nails or other issues, but if your dog is an extreme biter that shows no improvements, I will decline to groom your dog and you will be charged a fee for my coming to your home. So please be honest. Usually I can turn most dogs biting around, but I need to keep my fingers to pay my mortgage! I will not groom people aggressive dogs - no expceptions.
Absolutely! I have treats too, but I am happy to use their favorite treats or toy. I want your dog to have a favorable experience.
Yes, I trim nails and clean ears with every appointment. I will also trim the sanitary area and foot pads with a bath and tidy. I pluck the ear hair if needed. Although, I have my own opinions about that which I can share with you at your appointment. Please read my anal gland article I wrote for www.boneupmagazine.com to see my view about expressing anal glands. "Why does my dog scoot......" We can also discuss this.
I use mainly natural products on my dog clients. I have all different types of shampoos for every dog's skin/coat needs. If you have a special medicated shampoo that you want me to use, I am happy to use your shampoo. I am happy to really have your dog soak in this shampoo for the necessary 10 minutes because I want it to work!
Yes, I have individual use tooth brushes and toothpaste, but in all honesty if you only brush your dog's teeth once a month, it isn't doing any good. We brush our teeth several times a day and dog's need daily teeth cleaning too! If you are intereseted, I have a product I sell that is easy and incredibly affective to keep your dog's teeth free of tarter and plaque. My two Golden's are almost 8 years old and their teeth are immaculate! I have pictures of their teeth I can show you. It is safe and the dogs don't mind it.
Yes, your dog does need to have his DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies vaccines. If your dog is a senior dog and the vet has approved him to no longer having vaccines, that is OK. If you have a puppy they should have at least two sets of vaccinations (usually by about 10-12 weeks). If you choose to not vaccinate your dog at all and you have Titers blood tests instead, that is OK too. Please call to discuss further if you have any questions.
Most dogs take an hour, but it varies greatly based on the breed, temperament, type and condition of the coat and grooming requirements. I ask a lot of questions on our initial phone conversation to do my best to estimate the time.
You will need to make an appointment in advance as I do get filled up quickly. I make every attempt to create standing appointments with first priority going to my weekly clients, then bi-weekly and then monthly clients. I do have a strict 48 hour cancelation policy to not incur a full appointment charge. This allows me to have enough time to fill your time slot and not lose income. Emergencies do happen and I take that into consideration. Clients who cancel or need to change appointments frequently however, will not be able to remain on the schedule. Please understand that the scheduling is extremely time consuming for me and changes take a lot of extra time on the phone for me which I don't have.
Dogs are unpredictable so I can't pinpoint the exact time of my arrival, but I will be able to give you a one-two hour time window for my arrival. I am always on time and I take great pride in how reliably I run my business. Arrangements can be made if you want me to call your cell phone to let you know when I am on the way, therefore you do not need to be home until necessary.
Generally, my hours are M-F approx. 9AM to 6PM, but that may vary. I occasionally will work a Saturday. I am sorry, I do not take credit cards. Cash and checks only, and I do graciously accept tips.
I service most of Boise, but I primarily service SE, NE, North End and East Boise, and I also service portions of Eagle one day a week. Please call if you have questions and leave me your exact address (with city and zip) so I can Mapquest it before I call you back. I am new to Boise and I am still learning the area. Thanks for your patience.
I will also be grooming at Camp Bow Wow, please see the following question.
I will be grooming dogs frequently at the CAMP BOW WOW in Boise at 3430 South TK Ave please call them at 208-331-5091 to find out how your dog can attend their premier doggie day camp and overnight boarding. Or visit their website at http://campbowwow.com/us/id/boise/ . If your dog is at camp, I can groom them on the days I am there.
I generally do not travel far outside my service area, but if you have multiple dogs and are willing to pay a higher fee for both my travel time and gas it may be possible.
Grooming prices vary by location, type of dog, temperament, coat condition and grooming time. Please visit my "services and fees" page for more information and call me to discuss your dog's individual needs. I ask a lot of questions during our initial phone call that will help me to determine an estimated grooming time. It is difficult without seeing and meeting the dog.
You are paying an extra fee for the convenience of my coming to your home to groom your dog. Generally that fee is $20-$25 extra on an average groom time. The benefits of mobile grooming far out weigh the extra cost. Based on my grooming abilities, professionalism, top of the line vehicle and dog handling skills I do charge a higher rate for my premium service. I am very confident that my fees are well worth this unparalled service I provide and that you will find that the safety. comfort and happiness of your dog is what is most important. Please see my "services and fees" page and "client testimonials" page for more information.
Most dogs do well with a bath and or haircut every 4 weeks. Some dogs have oily skin and need more frequent bathing like a Basset Hound which can get very smelly and greasy within a week or two. Where as a Cairn Terrier's wirey hair can go much longer between baths. Grooming time varies based on type of coat and the lifestyle of you and your dog. Does your dog sleep on the bed? Does he hang out on your couch? Do you have small children playing on the floors? Is your dog an active hiker in the foothills? If yes, then you may want more frequent grooming. Do you comb your dog often? Does he mat easily? All dogs need their nails clipped and ears cleaned regularly. Some dogs who don't get outside much can wait 6-8 weeks, but once a month is best. Simple brushing between appointments can help keep them cleaner longer. Brushing helps reduce shedding, stimulates new hair growth and keeps their coats in better shape. Regular grooming is also beneficial for your dog for me to check him from head to toe and make sure there are no new growths, ear infections, weight gain or loss, skin infections or other problems you may not notice. I'd be happy to help you determine how often your dog needs grooming.
"A CLEAN DOG GETS MORE LOVE!!!"
If you wish, I can take family members in the van together to avoid seperation anxiety.
